How is it possable for dry cell batteries, 1.5 volt, to change polarity on their own?
Over the past couple of years I have had dry cell batteries change polarity while hooked up in several different devices. Flashlights, a neck vibrator, and other battery operated devices. The batteries were all 1.5 volts, in different sizes D, C, AA, and AAA, both carbon and Alkaline batteries. Good or cheap it does not matter. I have a friend with a degree in electronics and he told me this was impossible, but when I but the meter on them -=+ and +=- and I did it right in front of him. He could not believe it, even when he saw it. What is going on, or should I move my family out of here>
If you put a depleted cell in series with good cells, the current through the depleted one (which is forced by the good cells) puts a reverse charge it. I don't know the chemistry of what's going on inside, though. I suspect the reverse charge would not last long if you tried to use it in that polarity.
Always change all the cells in an appliance as a group.
