Help! I hear a high pitched whistle under my hood?
I found a hose that I think was blowing air and causing the noise. I pushed up on it with a stick, and the noise went away. i could not get to it with my hands. I noticed with the flashlight that this hose appeared to be torn, or something. Now the noise is gone, but my car rpm still goes low, almost to the point of cutting off. I get HORRIBLE MILEAGE lately, in additon to thisother noise my car makes. It sounds like a car going backwards with the brake emergency brake on. Can I fix this leak on my own? I have a Mazda MPV 2002.
Sounds like a vacum leak, if you can find both ends of the hose, and disconnect them you can just get a replacement hose and put it back on.
Vacuum leaks will often affect the idle on vehicles, sometimes making them idle low and sometimes high.
