Two days ago I bought a pack of 4 Energiser 1300 mAH batteries with a Quattro charger. The leaflet claims it takes 4-8 hours to charge and that the green led lights should stop glowing when they are fully charged, however after 11 hours of charging the led lights are still on and the batteries are hot (not enough to burn you but enough to give discomfort- sorry i cant give an exact temperature). I put the batteries in my camera and the display said they were full. Could the charger be faulty? If it makes any difference they were charged 3 hours through an extension chord and 8 through the mains the following day after about 10 hours left uncharged (didn't trust it to charge while I slept).
Your Quattro is an cheap "dumb" charger that relies on a relatively low charging rate and an internal timer to keep from cooking the usable life out of your batteries at a rate that you might notice. The timer is supposed to restart each time you plug it in and then turn off after about 8.5 hours. There some reviews that the timer doesn't always work. That same charger is bundled with batteries ranging from 1300 to 2650 mAH. In your case, you probably achieved close to a full charge in the first 3 hours since you bought the lower capacity cells. The additional 8 hours (and the resulting heat that you felt) probably did more harm than good.

You shouldn't be relying on the timer for your 1300 mAH batteries anyway. The last few links are the (not particularly informative) instructions that you probably already have.
