Shawn Michaels is the first ever grand slam champion in WWE and AJ Styles is the first ever grand slam champion for TNA.
Importance to the company: AJ Styles is more important to TNA then Shawn Michaels is to the WWE. Shawn Michaels is on the verge of retirement and had his run in the past. AJ Styles is still a rising superstar and he's quite young. TNA is making AJ Styles the centerpiece of the company and AJ Styles is arguably the most popular superstar in TNA. Shawn Michaels isn't as major to WWE as AJ is to TNA. Superstars like John Cena and Randy Orton are the representatives for the WWE and are the most heavily pushed superstars in WWE. Shawn Michaels is just putting over superstars right now and he isn't the focal point of the company.
Even from the past, Shawn Michaels wasn't really what turned the tide or carried WWE into the next generation. Wrestlers like Bret Hart, Ric Flair, The Undertaker, and others carried WWE with Shawn Michaels until Stone Cold revolutionized the Attitude Era in the WWF. AJ Styles is the superstar that will carry TNA into the next decade and he should remain as the focal point of TNA.
Skills and Talents: I consider AJ the more multi-talented athlete then Shawn Michaels and they are just about equal in the ring. Both are quite versatile in the ring because both can mat wrestle with submissions and counters, both can brawl with strikes, and both can utilize aerial maneuvers when necessary. Neither rely on spots to make a match great. Both are great in numerous gimmick matches as well. AJ Styles is probably better then Shawn Michaels now because of HBK's broken back and his age. I personally enjoy watching AJ Styles more in the ring.
Both were in the prime of their careers when they became grand slam champion. Shawn Michaels defeated legends like Bret Hart to finally become champion and was one of WWE's greatest superstars at the time. Shawn Michaels consistently put on great performances as well. AJ Styles was also in the prime of his career because during the beginning years of TNA, he was simply phenomenal. AJ Styles was consistently putting on great matches as well and he was extremely popular among TNA fans.
Both will undoubtedly be legends for their respective promotions because Shawn Michaels will be recorded in history as one of the greatest of all time while AJ Styles will be considered one of the biggest legends in TNA history. I actually applaud AJ Styles more then Shawn Michaels for one reason. Shawn Michaels became big because he was in the biggest promotion. WWF was a global promotion and recognized around the world. AJ Styles on the other hand was in TNA, which was a relatively new promotion and he has made a name without stepping into the WWE ring. WWE can make anyone a star, but AJ has done it without the WWE and that's why I applaud him.
