What are string lights called in Dutch?
I'm a foreign student living in Amsterdam, and I'm looking for string lights (patio string light). What do you call these in Dutch? And in what kind of Dutch store can I find these?
String light, or patio string lights, are the ones which a series of sockets with light bulbs are attached to a cable of about 10 meters. Some restaurants hang them in the ceiling in all kinds of colors.
string lights as in the ones you put in your christmas tree are called
'kerstverlichting' or 'kerstlampjes'
but I'm not really sure how to literally translate this...
you can always explain it like:
'ik zoek een snoer met allemaal lampjes eraan'
which means: 'I'm looking for a string with lights attached to it.'
You could buy them in stores like: Action, V&D, HEMA, most garden centers. They are more common near christmas though!
